The standard engine on a Sierra HD pickup is a 6.6L V8 gas engine that delivers 401 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 464 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine produces 470 horsepower at 2800 rpm and 975 lb.-ft. of torque at 1600 rpm. Both engines are paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission for optimal performance.

Towing Capabilities

The Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD are both excellent choices for towing and trailering, especially when you opt for the 6.6L Duramax engine. This engine boosts your maximum towing capacity to 21,870 pounds on the 2500 and 36,000 pounds on the 3500.

The GMC Trailering Package comes standard on both the 2500 and 3500, providing everything you need throughout the towing process. This includes a 2.5-inch receiver hitch, 4-pin and 7-pin connectors, and Hitch Guidance. Hitch Guidance is a digital feature that displays your trailer and hitch on an in-cabin touchscreen.
