The 2025 GMC Sierra HD lineup offers high-powered performance with enhanced towing capabilities and high-tech cabin features. Get a closer look at the Sierra 2500 and 3500 in this breakdown.

Engine and Transmission
The standard engine on a Sierra HD pickup is a 6.6L V8 gas engine that delivers 401 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 464 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine produces 470 horsepower at 2800 rpm and 975 lb.-ft. of torque at 1600 rpm. Both engines are paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission for optimal performance.
Towing Capabilities
The Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD are both excellent choices for towing and trailering, especially when you opt for the 6.6L Duramax engine. This engine boosts your maximum towing capacity to 21,870 pounds on the 2500 and 36,000 pounds on the 3500.
The GMC Trailering Package comes standard on both the 2500 and 3500, providing everything you need throughout the towing process. This includes a 2.5-inch receiver hitch, 4-pin and 7-pin connectors, and Hitch Guidance. Hitch Guidance is a digital feature that displays your trailer and hitch on an in-cabin touchscreen.
Exterior Features
Standard exterior features on Sierra HD pickups include a CornerStep rear bumper, twelve cargo tie-downs, cab-mounted cargo area lamps, chrome bumpers, and LED lighting. There’s also an available GMC MultiPro tailgate that has six possible positions to make loading, unloading, and hauling different types of cargo easier.
Seating Configuration
Pickups in the Sierra HD lineup can seat up to six passengers, with a 40/20/40 split front bench and a 60/40 split rear bench. The front bench seat has an under-seat storage compartment that’s perfect for work tools, extra clothing, travel essentials, or first aid kits. Seat bottoms on the rear bench can be lifted up to create cargo space on your Sierra’s floor.
Safety Package
Both the 2500 and 3500 come equipped with the exclusive Sierra HD Pro Safety package to keep you safer on the road. This package uses assistive functions that monitor your surroundings and alert you to potential hazards, such as a pedestrian stepping into your path or following another vehicle too closely. The Sierra HD Pro Safety package includes Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, and more.
